Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed 'Wandering' Across Jersey Shore Highway Authorities have released the name of a pedestrian killed while crossing a road in Toms River. Joseph L. Witty Jr. 39 of Toms River, died at about 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, while crossing Route 37, Toms River police said. He was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, police said. Police were dispatched to Route 37 east and Marian Street, in reference to a man wandering in the street in the westbound lanes. Moments later dispatch received another call that a pedestrian was struck in the eastbound lanes of Route 37.  Police found the pedestrian dead in the shoulder …

Nicholas Cacciapaglia, 24, of Toms River died after trying to ride the motorcycle in Ocean County Motorsports parking lot, Toms River police said. Crystal Calpin, 29, of Toms River was driving west on Route 37 at Oak Ridge Parkway when she collided with another car at 8:56 a.m. Monday, Toms River police said. Thomas Jann, 34, of Beachwood, pled guilty to six counts of robbery and one count of burglary, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.  The string of alleged crimes occurred between July 27, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2020, in Toms River,  Berkeley Township and Beachwood, the prosecutor said. Toms River Man Admits Robbing Local Bank A Toms River man admitted robbing a local bank in 2019, authorities said Wednesday. Patrick Callahan, 47, passed a note to the teller at the Chase Bank on Route 37 around 3:30 p.m. Dec. 31, 2019, saying he had a gun and then left with $1,000, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D.
