A hiker from New Jersey complaining of chest discomfort and breathing problems collapsed and died while hiking in the Catskills last weekend, officials said. The man was identified by the Times Union as Ravi K. Vegiraju, 50, of Morganville. The incident happened in Greene County in the hamlet of Lanesville around 8:50 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 16. There's been an outpouring of support for a Woodbridge Department of Public Works employee struck by lightning this week. Eric Baumgartner survived the strike after a Woodbridge police officer performed life-saving CPR. Overdose Victim Found On Bench In Atlantic City
A report of an unconscious man turned out to be an apparent drug overdose in Atlantic City, authorities said. On Friday, March 24, at 8:32 a.m., police were dispatched to the corner of New York and Adriatic Avenues. Officers arrived to find the unconscious male lying on a concrete bench near the sidewalk in the 300 block of north New York Avenue, police said. After checking for vital signs, officers began CPR until the Atlantic City Fire Department and Emergency Medical personnel arrived and took over CPR. A 4-year-old girl was rescued by a family member after she fell through the ice on a Mahwah pond, responders said. At least three good Samaritans including an off-duty police officer, a nurse and a surfer helped try to rescue a drowning victim. Marlboro Township police received a 9-1-1 phone call on Saturday night Feb. 19 from a resident on Amagansett Drive who stated their 2-month-old baby was not breathing.
