Four New Jerseyians Selected In NFL Draft
It was a big weekend for New Jersey at the NFL Draft, as four players from the Garden State heard their name called and another Jerseysite gets to play football close to home. Ji'Ayir Brown, a safety who went to Trenton Central High School, was drafted in the 3rd round by the San Francisco 49ers. At Trenton Central, he was named all-conference as a junior and as a senior, he earned first-team all-state and all-conference. Onetime New York Giants fan favorite Peyton Hillis was hospitalized after a swimming accident in Florida in which he saved two of his kids and two adults from drowning, authorities confirmed. Hillis, 36, remained in intensive care and was "having some problems with his kidneys and his lungs," reported his uncle, Greg Hillis, "but the doctors say he is improving." New York Jets receivers coach Miles Austin has been suspended for a minimum of a year by the NFL for violating the league's gambling policy, it was announced Friday night. Austin, 38, a Garfield (NJ) High School and Monmouth College graduate who once played wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys and later the Philadelphia Eagles, is appealing the decision, various sources reported on Dec. 23. New Jersey TV Reporter Scott Babashak Who Met Wife Working On Air Dies Suddenly
Former TV news reporter Scott Babashak of Trenton died of a heart attack Friday, May 27, reports WFMZ, where he previously worked. He was 54 years old. The Hamilton native graduated from the Steinert High School in 1985, where he was president of his graduating class, his obit says. He went on to graduate from Rider University and subsequently landed a job at NBC in New York City.
