Driver Who Sped Away From Trooper Crashes, Suffers Serious Injuries On NJ Turnpike (Update) A 49-year-old man from New York who was stopped in the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike was seriously injured when he suddenly sped away from the trooper checking on him, hitting another vehicle Sunday morning, May 14, authorities said. The man was stopped in a Honda Accord on the shoulder near milepost 54.2 in Bordentown, when a trooper came over to check on him around 10:35 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry said. Toms River PD: Emotionally Disturbed Man Fired Gunshot A 49-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday evening after firing a gunshot in Ocean County, authorities said. Preliminary investigation found an emotionally disturbed resident fired one shot into the air and fled the scene, Toms River police said.  No one was hurt during the shooting, which occurred just before 6 p.m.  He was subsequently located and taken to Community Medical Center for further evaluation, police said.
