New Details Released On $20M Upgrade For Atlantic City's Boardwalk
The most iconic part of Atlantic City is getting tens of millions of dollars in upgrades. But many millions more are needed to fully repair the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The city held a news conference on Tuesday, Mar. 12 to discuss the next steps in the major undertaking to fix up the boardwalk. Jersey Shore Boardwalks Get $100M For 'Vital' Upgrades
Jersey Shore communities are getting $100 million in state grants to make crucial repairs to their boardwalk, officials said. The Boardwalk Preservation Fund money will go to 18 municipalities in Atlantic, Cape May, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties, Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Friday, Feb. 23. The state Department of Community Affairs (NJDCA) will give out the funds to invest in "state-of-the-art materials that increase storm resiliency and ensure longer lasting infrastructure." Police ID Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Atlantic County
An elderly pedestrian was fatally hit by a car while crossing a road in Atlantic County, authorities said. Ventnor City police responded to Wellington Avenue near the Ventnor Plaza shopping center at around 6:25 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9. The department announced the crash details in a news release on Monday, Feb. 12. Investigators said 81-year-old Vincent Carulli of Ventnor City was crossing the road near Little Rock Avenue and did not use a crosswalk. A man believed responsible for graffiti throughout Atlantic City and Ventnor City has been arrested, authorities said. Steve Araujo, 40, of Ventnor City was arrested and charged with criminal mischief on Dec. 4, Atlantic City police said. During the month of August, both police departments were alerted to numerous locations that were vandalized including completed art projects in the Lower Chelsea neighborhood of Atlantic City, electrical boxes, and businesses. Man Allegedly Stabbed Atlantic City Store Clerk During Robbery: Police
A 42-year-old man from Ventnor City was arrested for armed robbery after stealing from a store and stabbing an employee, authorities said. At 8:48 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, Atlantic City Police Officers Moustafa Maarouf and James Eckert were called to a convenience store in the 400 block of north Tennessee Avenue for a stabbing. Police were flagged down by several witnesses reporting there was a disturbance inside the store. Kayleigh Ann Cocozza of Ventnor City died on Feb. 3, 2023 in Atlantic City, her obituary says. She was 34 years old. According to her obituary, Kayleigh had been working as a waitress since getting her GED "but had so much more potential than time allowed." A 55-year-old man from Atlantic County has been arrested for luring/enticing after seeking to have sex with a boy, authorities said. Joseph M. Manzoni, of Ventnor City, was charged on June 22 after a monthlong investigation, according to Ventnor City Police. On May 22, at 10:25 p.m., Ventnor police received a report from a subject who arrived at a pre-arranged location to meet a male with the purpose of having sex with him. A tip from a citizen led to the arrest of a South Jersey man carrying a loaded "ghost gun," authorities said. At 4:54 p.m. Thuesday, Sergeant Charles Stuart and Detective Darrin Lorady of the Special Investigations Section found Alexander Boynes walking in the 1500 block of Caspian Avenue, Atlantic City police said. Five suspects have been arrested on various drug charges following complaints from residents about illegal sales in their neighborhood, authorities said. Detectives with the Special Investigations Section conducted a surveillance operation near South Carolina and Baltic avenues on Wednesday morning, Atlantic City police said. At least four people have joined a class-action lawsuit filed against a North Jersey company accused of selling bogus COVID-19 tests in at least one South Jersey location, NorthJersey.com reports.
