A tollbooth on the Garden State Parkway was closed after a garbage truck crashed into it, causing issues for morning commuters, officials said. Man's Suicide Attempt Closes Route 42 For Hours: State Police (

Police activity that closed Route 42 in Bellmawr for hours has come to an end. For seven hours, the man stood on the ledge of the I-295 overpass, closing Route 42 below in both directions on Thursday afternoon, April 4 near Exit 14. "We were able to get the individual some help," said New Jersey State Trooper, who declined to provide further details. Photos at the scene show tractor trailers lined up under the bridge and police speaking to the man, standing on a ledge of the overpass. Car Veers Off Garden State Parkway
A vehicle veered off the Garden State Parkway in Cape May County, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28 northbound North of Exit 6 in Middle Township, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Based on a preliminary investigation, two vehicles were traveling north In the area of milepost 70, New Jersey State Police said. One vehicle collided with the rear of the other, they said. No injuries were reported, State Police said.

School Police Officer Struck By Car While Directing Traffic Near Cherry Hill HS East
A Cherry Hill High School East campus police officer was hit by a car while directing traffic on Friday, Jan. 12, a school district spokeswoman said. The crash occurred at about 7:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of Kresson Road, 6abc reported. A photo from the scene shows the front windshield of a Hyundai sedan heavily damaged. The resource officer was apparently seriously injured, 6abc says. The officer was transported to the hospital by ambulance, said Barbara Wilson, a spokeswoman for Cherry Hill Public Schools. Truck Crash Jams Route 17
A driver escaped serious injury when a box truck crashed early Friday on Route 17 in Paramus. The driver got out under his own steam after the truck hit a pole and a tree, landing on its side on the northbound highway outside the Trader Joe's near the Midland Avenue exit shortly before 6:30 a.m. The right and center lanes were temporarily closed as a heavy duty wrecker righted and removed the truck. Traffic stretched for miles. All lanes were reported reopened at 8:44 a.m. Paramus police, firefighters and EMS responded.

Brick Officers Struck By Car Breaking Up Wild House Party
A pair of Brick Township police officers breaking up a wild house party and street revelers were struck by a vehicle -- sending one of the officers to the hospital, authorities said. Darius Edwards, 24, of Brooklyn, fled in a white Mercedes Benz after hitting Brick Officer Joseph Riccio and a detective overnight Monday, Sgt. Jim Kelly later said. A medical assistant from Harlem sped off after she struck and seriously injured a man with her car in broad daylight near the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee last month, said authorities who arrested and charged her. Palisades Park Pedestrian, 70, Struck By Car
A 70-year-old pedestrian was struck by a turning vehicle Thursday afternoon in Palisades Park. The 27-year-old borough driver was making a left from East Edsall Boulevard when his Volkswagen Jetta struck the woman, also from Palisades Park, as she crossed Bergen Boulevard, responders said. She sustained minor injuries, they said. The driver received summonses, including for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Hackensack PD: Traffic Light Toppled In Red Light Rollover Crash
A crash caused when a driver ran a red light toppled a traffic light Tuesday morning in Hackensack, authorities said. The 50-year-old Nissan Pathfinder driver from Hackensack was headed south on Summit Avenue when he ignored the red light at Central Avenue, Lt. Anthony Natale said. The 2007 Pathfinder collided with a 2020 Hyundai Sonata at the intersection and rolled onto its roof, knocking down the light pole, he said. Route 40 is closed in both directions between Old Egg Harbor Road and Cantillon Boulevard due to a motor vehicle crash, authorities said.
