: Garfield Woman, 27, Killed In Fiery Meadowlands Tow Truck Crash
A 27-year-old Garfield woman who was pronounced dead at the scene of a fiery overnight crash near the Meadowlands "always had a song in her head and her heart," a loved one wrote in tribute. A sedan driven by Alysha Menzies apparently slammed into the back of a flatbed tow truck on westbound Route 3 near Route 120 in East Rutherford shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, May 6, responders said. The flatbed was carrying a Mercedes SUV that fell onto her car, which burst into flames, they said. The front end of a tandem tractor-trailer toppled a traffic signal after a sedan slammed into it before dawn Thursday on a major roadway near the Meadowlands, authorities said. Somehow, neither the 30-year-old Maryland trucker or 27-year-old motorist from Garfield whose Hyundai Sonata knocked over the rig was injured seriously, Police Chief Richard Behrens said. Coronavirus spelled bad luck for Atlantic City's casinos. Closed by the COVID-19 epidemic on March 16, the Garden State's gambling hub took in about 69 percent less money in April 2020 than last April -- bolstered only by a more than doubling in internet betting proceeds. All totaled, casino revenue fell by nearly $200 million last month from a year ago.
