Motorist Crashes, Killed After 'Medical Episode' In South Jersey

A 71-year-old driver died after striking a tree during a "medical episode," authorities said.

The crash occurred on Friday, May 12 at 3:57 p.m. on County Road 649 northbound at milepost 3.5 in Commercial Township, New Jersey State Police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a VW Passat, driven by Ingrid Hillman, of Egg Harbor Township. was traveling north, State Police said.

Hillman had an unknown medical episode causing her to cross over the center line into a wooded area and ultimately striking a tree, police said.

Hillman was taken to Vineland Inspira Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
