Freak Accident Kills Boy, 12, Playing In NJ Backyard: Police
A New Jersey boy was killed when a tree fell on him in a backyard, authorities said. Lucas Schwartz, 12, was identified as the victim of the Eldridge Avenue incident in Lawrence Township on a GoFundMe page. Police said he'd been playing with a friend in the backyard of a home when gusty winds blew the tree over, and it fell onto him around 12:09 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Officers freed Schwartz from under the tree and began CPR. Paramedics rushed Lucas to Capital Health System Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. The Lawrence …

Thousands Without Power As Storm Intensifies In NJ
Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power as of Tuesday evening, Jan. 9, as the storm intensified. A State of Emergency ordered by Gov. Phil Murphy went into effect at 5 p.m., with state and local officials urging residents to stay off the roads. As of 7:25 p.m., more than 2,000 residents in Hunterdon County were in the dark, according to JCP&L, including 123 in Delaware; 729 in Lambertville City; 733 in Raritan; 437 in West Amwell, and more. Tie Everything Down: Dangerous Winds Headed Our Way, Weather Service Says
Dangerous winds will pummel nearly all of New Jersey and Rockland County on Monday, the National Weather Service warned. A high wind watch was issued Sunday for all but the state's northwest corner, with a sustained speed of 20 to 30 miles an hour -- and guests as high as 60 mph -- expected. "Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines," the NWS warned. "Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for wide profile vehicles." Glen Rock Train Station Tree Topples
Somewhere in a row of SUVs parked at the train station in Glen Rock was one covered by a fallen tree Monday morning. High winds with extreme gusts downed trees and snapped branches in various areas of North Jersey overnight. Workers were out removing debris and sawing fallen trees for disposal.
