A heat advisory and excessive heat watch are both in effect across New Jersey and Pennsylvania ahead of scorching temps expected later this week. Temps are expected to rise into the low 90s Tuesday, June 18 (see heat index maps below) and get increasingly hotter as the week progresses. Two Jersey Shore School Districts Could Merge After OK From State Officials
New Jersey's top education officials have signed-off on a referendum for a merger between two school districts. On Friday, March 8, Acting New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer approved Seaside Heights merging with the Toms River Regional school district. The Central Regional School District had petitioned against the merger, but Dehmer said that Seaside Heights is closer in proximity to Toms River, so transportation will be cheaper and more time-efficient. A South Jersey schools superintendent has a disappointing message for students ahead of this week's winter storm. "Don't expect a snow day," Cherry Hills Superintendent Dr. Joseph Meloche said Monday. The region is bracing for its first whopper of a storm in nearly two years coming Wednesday. Livingston Public Schools Hit With Ransomware Attack
The Livingston Public School district announced a late start to classes Monday due to a ransomware attack which has left the district's computers unusable. The district's servers went down Friday and an assessment by an outside security company determined the cause to be a ransomware attack. The party responsible is not believed to be associated with the Livingston community or its public schools. Teachers In These 3 North Jersey Towns Among Lowest-Paid In State
New Jersey has some of the highest-paid teachers -- but there are also some who don't make nearly as much. According to a new report in NJ.com, the median teacher salary in the state was $67,812 last year. The median salary in more than 100 school districts fell below $60,000 and even some below $50,000.
