A Saddle Brook police officer was suspended without pay and two of his colleagues suspended with pay Thursday following a reckless high-speed chase and alleged subsequent coverup. Saddle Brook Officer Andres Morales, 28, was off duty when a uniformed officer in Ridgefield tried to stop his speeding BMW on Broad Avenue 2:35 a.m. Oct. 3. Morales kept going, however, exiting onto Route 46 and then onto westbound Route 80, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. TRIBUTE: Thoughts and prayers Friday were with the family of a Saddle Brook fire chief who died in the line of duty 50 years ago. It was shortly after midnight June 26, 1970 that a West Caldwell driver’s car veered off the Garden State Parkway and plunged 30 feet onto Saddle River Road, bursting into flames. Fire Chief William “Don” Wilson was two blocks from the scene of the crash when he lost control of his own vehicle and it struck a tree on a notoriously treacherous curve on Saddle River Road. A drug user who'd just gotten off a bus in Saddle Brook was revived by responding police officers after she suffered a drug overdose while ringing doorbells looking for help Saturday afternoon, authorities said. It was the second time in three days that police used Narcan to save her. : Downed Tree Ignites Saddle Brook Blaze
A fallen tree dragged power lines onto a pickup truck parked in a Saddle Brook driveway Tuesday night, igniting a fire that destroyed the vehicle and a detached garage. Power to several customers was cut during the 9:35 p.m. two-alarm blaze at the corner of Saddle River Road and Riverview Place, which also slightly damaged the house, Police Chief Robert Kugler said. The tree fell on nearby Birk Street, bringing down the utility lines, Kugler said.
