The Union County Prosecutor's Office has released police dash cam and body cam video showing a man getting shot by police after he fled a traffic stop in Union in June. The video, which has been slightly edited, shows Lester Krek, 32, of Linden, getting interviewed by police during a traffic stop along Rt. 22 on June 7. After several minutes of back and forth with the officers, who inform Krek that his vehicle registration is expired, he takes off. Authorities ID Man Shot During Wild Union Police Chase
The man who was shot after fleeing from police in Union Friday afternoon has been identified as a 32-year-old Linden resident, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said. Lester Krek was pulled over for a traffic violation on Rt. 22 in Union around 2:15 p.m. Krek took off during the stop, according to authorities. Shortly afterward, Union police found his smashed pickup a few miles west in Mountainside. Elizabeth Man Killed In Hillside Crash Leaves Behind Young Son
A fundraiser has been started for the Elizabeth man who was killed when his car slammed into the back of a tractor trailer in Hillside last week. Uzodimma N. Oguh, 39, died early on the morning of April 22 when his car slid under the truck as it was pulling into a McDonald's parking lot on Rt. 22. The roadway was closed for several hours. Family and friends are now raising funds to help with funeral and other costs for Oguh, whose survivors include his toddler son Luke. Donations can be made via GoFundMe here.
