54-Year-Old Man Dies From Eating Too Much Licorice A 54-year-old man has died due to overconsumption of a candy - black licorice. The man, a Massachusetts resident, ate a bag and a half of the candies every day for two weeks prior to his death, the New York Post is reporting. Licorice contains the sweetener glycyyhizic acid, which can deplete a person’s potassium levels and contribute to heart problems, high blood pressure, edema, and lethargy, doctors said in a New England Journal of Medicine article that came out Wednesday, Sept. 23. Arrangements Set For Beloved Fair Lawn Police Officer Edward Egan Funeral arrangements have been set for popular Fair Lawn patrolman Edward Egan, who died Monday at his home. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Van Riper-Ellis-Broadway Baptist Church in Fair Lawn. A funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. at the church. Cremation will be private.  Egan, who had been with the borough police department 27 years, was battling cancer and had heart problems, colleagues said. Popular Fair Lawn Police Officer Edward Egan Dies A popular Fair Lawn patrolman with severe health problems died at his home Monday.  Edward Egan, who had been with the borough police department nearly 20 years, was battling cancer and had heart problems, colleagues said. A funeral service and visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15. Egan who previously worked as a state corrections officer, had recently been on light duty, they said.
