A Bergen County grade-school social studies teacher who was indefinitely suspended over assignments about Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany claims the district superintendent told him that he’d upset “Jewish people” in town and then ordered him to “fix” it. West Milford Man Nabbed In Rockland With Loaded Gun, Meth, Sheriff Says
A Passaic County driver was carrying a loaded gun and more than two ounces of crystal meth when a sheriff’s officer stopped him in Rockland, authorities said. Ethan A. Iglesias, 22, of Stowaway Road was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 202 in the town of Haverstraw at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, March 31, Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco said. A local judge ordered that Iglesias remain held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City pending a detention hearing on Monday, April 4, the sheriff said. He's charged with drug and weapons offenses.

Three Extricated From Minivan, Nine Injured In Palisades Interstate Parkway Pileup
UPDATE: Five minivan occupants had to be hospitalized -- three of whom were extricated by police -- following a multi-vehicle crash that closed the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway on Saturday for nearly an hour and a half, authorities said. The 2008 Chrysler minivan, a 2013 BMW X5 SUV and a 2013 Toyota coupe were involved in the 12:30 p.m. crash at Exit 4 on the parkway's northbound side in Alpine, PIP Police Sgt. First Class Raymond E. Dominican National Who Brought 2 Pounds Of Heroin To NJ From NY Gets 34 Months In Fed Pen
A Dominican national who smuggled more than two pounds of heroin from Rockland County into New Jersey was sentenced Thursday in Newark to a plea-bargained 34 months in federal prison. Bienvenido Perez Lazala, 31, who previously admitted his role in moving the drug, must serve the entire sentence because there's no parole in the federal prison system. The Troopers of Elizabeth lived up to their name Saturday by defeating a team from New York and earning the chance to compete in the Little League World Series. The Elmora Youth League team bested Haverstraw 19-4 in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Final in Bristol, Ct., Saturday. The boys are now headed to Williamsport, Pa., where the World Series starts Thursday. A Rockland man beat and tried to choke an Uber driver, said Palisades Interstate Parkway police who arrested him. The 21-year-old driver from Haverstraw pulled over and alerted an officer who’d stopped another vehicle on the southbound PIP in Englewood Cliffs Friday night that he’d just been assaulted, Officer-in-Charge Lt. Jock Watkins Jr. said. Joseph P. Coyle, 44, of Stony Point had beaten him and tried to choke him with a seatbelt, the driver told the officer.
