Pockets Of West Nile Virus Reported In Sussex County
Pockets of West Nile Virus were reported this week in Sussex County, officials said. Officials in Hampton Township on Aug. 17 confirmed West Nile Virus (WNV) in its adult mosquito population. Four days later, Sussex County officials said its mosquito control division was working to "steadily to neutralize pockets of virus activity detected in the county." Rescuers were able to save 38 dogs and eight cats found in a Virginia woman's pickup truck parked in a Sussex County lot — which was also carrying 40 dead animals, each one individually wrapped and labeled, authorities said. Pedestrian, 25, Struck By Car In Sussex County: State Police
A pedestrian was struck by a car in Sussex County Monday afternoon, state police said. A 25-year-old was hit by a Hyundai Kona on Route 206 S. at the entrance to the shopping center in front of the McDonald’s in Hampton Township just before 1 p.m., NJSP Sgt. Alejandro Goez told DailyVoice.com. The woman was taken to Newton Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Goez said. The Hyundai driver was not hurt in the accident, which remained under investigation.

Motorcyclist, 49, Airlifted In Sussex County Crash, State Police Say
A 49-year-old motorcyclist was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries in a Hampton Township crash, authorities said. The Highland Lakes man was headed northbound on Hamptonhouse Road on his Harley Davidson when he was struck by a Honda sedan -- headed in the same direction -- just after 12 p.m. Monday, New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said. The motorcycle veered off the road to the right and overturned, ejecting the driver, Goez said.
