Woman Deliberately Set Rutherford Garden Apartment Fire, Authorities Charge
A woman remained held Tuesday after authorities charged her with deliberately igniting a fire in the kitchen of a garden apartment in the Rutherford complex where she lives. Mary Anne Hampl, 62, was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. last Thursday, Feb. 8, after borough firefighters doused the Hastings Avenue blaze, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Hampl, who Musella said is unemployed, is accused of intentionally creating a fire and smoke condition with items purposefully placed on a stove. The prosecutor didn't suggest a possible motive. Worker Injured In Partial Hackensack Building Collapse
UPDATE: A worker was seriously injured when an awning that he and others were dismantling in front of an apartment building in Hackensack collapsed on him Friday, authorities confirmed. The 50-something victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with what appeared to be a broken arm, among other injuries, after the structure at the Parkview Apartments on Polifly Road gave way shortly before noon Oct. 27, responders said. A truck driver sustained minor injuries in a late-morning crash Wednesday in Hackensack. Polifly Road was temporarily closed after the box truck split a utility pole that fell into the roadway off the corner of Mary Street near Route 80. The driver was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. Hackensack firefighters and police responded along with the unit from HUMC. Driver Hospitalized After Rear-End Crash On Route 17
A motorist was hospitalized after her SUV was rear-ended Monday afternoon on Route 17 in Hackensack. She and the female driver of the Ford Focus that hit her were guided to the shoulder of the southbound highway below South Summit Avenue by Walter Rogers, an EMT with the Rutherford First-Aid Ambulance Corps, and a passing tow truck driver shortly after 1 p.m. The Ford driver declined attention, but the SUV operator complained of neck and back pain and dizziness, Rogers said. Sun-bathed temperatures climbed near 50 degrees on what became the day of the rollover in Bergen County on Wednesday – the third of which stretched across Route 80’s express lanes in Hackensack. Stuck In The Mud: Rescuers Retrieve Three Stranded In Hackensack River
Rescuers had to retrieve a trio of boaters who got stuck in the low-tide mud in the Hackensack River. The three got stuck near dusk Tuesday just off River Road in Teaneck. Teaneck firefighters brought them to shore. Also responding were firefighters from Hackensack and River Edge, with Bogota firefighters providing coverage in Teaneck.

Woman Hit By Train In Hackensack
A woman was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening after she was struck by a passenger train Saturday afternoon in Hackensack, authorities said. The woman was clipped by Pascack Valley Line Train #2111 near the Passaic Street crossing around 12:45 p.m., NJ Transit’s Kate Thompson said. The train left Hoboken at 12:36 p.m. and was due to arrive in Spring Valley at 1:23 p.m., Thompson said. None of the few people aboard were injured, she said.
