A new Rochelle Park police officer still in field training made a drug arrest after stopping a driver from Bogota who failed to scrape snow from this week's storm off his car, authorities said. Officer Chris Kiszka, who recently transferred from the Jersey City Police Department, stopped the vehicle on Essex Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday for several violations, Detective Lt. James M. NJ Man Arrested For Selling Heroin, Coke Hours After Parole Release Under Murphy COVID Law
A Sussex County man was arrested for selling heroin and crack cocaine, just hours after being released from parole supervision last week, authorities said. Leighton A. Brown, 42, of Newton, was arrested at his home last Wednesday, and charged with distribution of heroin and crack cocaine, as well as selling CDS within 1,000 feet of a school zone, police said. Brown was released from parole supervision on Nov. 4, under Gov. Murphy’s COVID-19 law that reduced and ended parole time, police said. The number of New Jersey residents who have applied for unemployment benefits has surged to more than 1.5 million since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CARES Act gave workers an extra $600 per week, but expired at July’s end. President Trump’s executive order calling for a new $400 weekly benefit was signed last month. Gov. 5th-Grade Girl, Beloved Teacher Killed In Paramus School Bus Crash
UPDATE: A young female student and a beloved teacher were confirmed dead Thursday morning after a school bus filled with Paramus fifth-graders collided with a dump truck on Route 80 in Morris County.
