Newark police are attempting to locate the person who carjacked a vehicle with a 3-year-old inside on Tuesday, Oct. 31, triggering an AMBER alert. At 8:13 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue after a 2017 silver-colored Hyundai Sonata was carjacked, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. As police canvassed the area, the AMBER alert was issued at 9:55 a.m., Fragé said. A 23-year-old Newark man has been charged in the August killing of another man, authorities said. Tyquil Martin is facing charges of murder and various weapons offenses in the Saturday, Aug. 13 death of Thomas Pickett, 23, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. A 51-year-old Newark man who struck a teenage girl in his friend's BMW abandoned the car on the NJ Turnpike before surrendering to police, authorities said. A dozen people were displaced by a massive fire that tore through a Newark home and spread to nearby buildings overnight, authorities said. The fire broke out around 1:50 a.m. at 297 Clifton Ave., a 3.5-story wood frame house, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
