A 44-year-old Garfield woman and a 39-year-old Irvington man were recently arrested for having sex in public multiple times in Newark, authorities said. Melissa Barrett and Christopher Turner were arrested following multiple acts of lewdness that occurred between February 2024 and August 2024, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A 3-year-old was found unharmed in Jersey City after an AMBER alert was issued out of Newark on Tuesday, Oct. 31. At 8:15 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue after a vehicle was carjacked with the child left inside, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. At 10:30 a.m., police found the vehicle in Jersey City with the child inside and unharmed, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation.

A man leapt to his death from the balcony of a building in Newark Tuesday, Sept. 5, officials said. Police responding to the intersection of Center Street and Park Place on a call of a sick or injured person found the unresponsive man around 5:25 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He had jumped from a building’s balcony across from New Jersey Performing Arts Center and pronounced dead at 5:48 p.m. The incident remains under investigation. No further information is available.
