A man whose family came to the U.S. from Iraq was charged with attempted murder after authorities said he stabbed another man in the neck either in or outside a popular Middle Eastern restaurant in Paterson. Anmar Oudah, 35, of Elmwood Park stabbed the 30-year-old victim during what witnesses told police was a fight at Al-Mazaq Restaurant and Bakery on East Railway Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday, March 3. A ferocious, fast-moving fire early Saturday destroyed a Paterson building that housed a 65-year-old pickle company. The blaze broke out in the single-story Pickle King plant on Ellison Street at Straight Street around 6 a.m. March 25, several hours after the last employees working on Friday had left, city authorities said. It went to two alarms within minutes, then hit three bells shortly before 7 a.m., as flames blew through the roof and it eventually collapsed. Raging Fire Consumes Paterson Warehouse, Threatens Neighboring Buildings
Several dozen firefighters doused a roaring pre-dawn fire in Paterson on Sunday that destroyed a warehouse owned by one of the Silk City's oldest businesses while threatening neighboring buildings. Flames shooting through the roof met firefighters when they arrived at the Levine Industries warehouse on Florida Avenue near East Railway Avenue shortly after 4:30 a.m. The roof eventually collapsed as they worked to drown the fire from various angles, keeping it contained. Paterson police raided several nightclubs -- and closed a couple -- that they said were packed with patrons in violation of social distancing regulations, among other offenses.
