Eight people were hospitalized in a series of Route 3 crashes — one of which involved emergency response vehicles — early Tuesday, Sept. 10 in East Rutherford, police said. Naughty Or Nice? NJ Police Department Gets Festive With New Speed Radar
One New Jersey police department is getting extra festive this Christmas season with its holiday-themed speed radar. “Santa is still making his naughty and nice lists,” reads a Facebook post from Hackettstown Police alongside a photo of the radar signs, which are set up on Warren and Willow Grove Streets. The 35-year-old Hamburg motorist’s Subaru struck a fire hydrant, then rolled onto the driver’s side door and slid into a tree, Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti said. She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with a head injur…

A local swimming instructor with a prosthetic leg happened to be in the right place at the right time Tuesday, when a 68-year-old driver who couldn't swim accidentally sent his car into the Newark Bay in Bayonne. The British Swim School instructor and lifeguard -- 29-year-old Anthony Capuano -- went in after him. And the entire rescue was caught on tape. Capuano, of Elizabeth, was just 17 years old when he was struck by a train in Jersey City. He's been living with a prosthetic limb, but that hasn't stopped him from living an active life. Three years ago, he became a swimming instructor, …

Police: 'Other Medical Reason' Could've Caused Crash Involving Driver Wearing N95 Mask
An N95 mask worn by a driver may not have been the reason he fainted and crashed, said police in Lincoln Park, updating an original report. “It is certainly possible that some other medical reason could've contributed" to the accident, they said in an updated post. “Police officers are not physicians and do not know the medical history of every person we encounter,” police said. “We conduct accident scene investigations using training, experience and observations at the scene to determine a cause. “It was stated in the original post that we ‘believed’ the excessive wearing of an N95 mask …
