The Department of Environmental Protection apparently told officials that had to open the pool to non-residents as keeping it closed to residents-only was in violation of DEP rules, as the pool was Green Acres-funded, NJ Advance Media reports. The DEP did not immediately return Daily Voice's request for comment placed Friday, Aug. 5. Bear Struck, Killed On Route 208 A motorist escaped injury when her sedan struck and killed a small black bear on Route 208, authorities said. The 30-year-old Haskell resident was headed north by herself on the highway when her 2016 Subaru WRX hit the bear between Ewing and Summit avenues in Franklin Lakes around 11 p.m. Friday, Capt. Mark McCombs said. She was OK, but the vehicle had to be towed, McCombs said. The state Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife collected the bear.

The state Department of Environmental Protection would like to help.  From now through May 5, state residents can receive up to five free tree seedlings suitable for planting. Proof of residency is required, and the particular species of tree a resident can receive will depend on where they live.
