Dairy products linked to deaths and serious illness — sold nationwide at many major retailers — are being recalled, the Center for Disease Control, the US Department of Agriculture, and the Food And Drug Administration announced in multiple releases over the first week of February. Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. is recalling over 50 products after 26 illnesses, 23 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths, according to the CDC. CDC Tells Customs Agents To Destroy Mysterious ‘Bushmeat’ Seized At Newark Airport
It’s with understandable concern that federal authorities seized nine pounds of illegal “bushmeat” that a passenger brought into Newark Airport from Ghana. We’ve all heard how bats that were sold at a wet market in Wuhan, China, may have either sparked the COVID-19 outbreak – or, at the very least, spread it -- nearly a year ago. Although it wasn’t immediately determined which animal or animals the cargo came from, bush meat has been made from those that can transfer diseases to humans, including bats. The passenger, a United States citizen, declared the meat and wasn’t in any trouble…

'Potential Super-Spreader' Hoboken SantaCon Cancelled
All Hoboken officials want for Christmas this year is a decline in COVID-19 cases. In an effort to achieve just that, the city's annual SantaCon bar crawl has been called off. “Our sole goal as Mayor and Police Chief is to keep Hoboken residents safe, and an unsanctioned, crowded bar crawl would have presented substantial challenges related to the pandemic," Mayor Ravi Bhalla and Police Chief Ken Ferrante. "We are glad to share that Santacon has officially been canceled by the event organizers, which will help protect Hoboken residents from a potential super-spreader type event." The ad…

Two more inmates at the Bergen County Jail recently tested positive for the coronavirus, one of whom was hospitalized and another who was receiving medical care in an isolation unit at the lockup, Sheriff Anthony Cureton said Monday. The 40-year-old Salvadoran national in ICE custody and a 54-year-old county inmate brought the total number of inmates who tested positive to three, the sheriff said. The first positive case, a 31-year-old ICE detainee, was released by federal authorities last Thursday, he said. The 40-year-old detainee was sent for medical evaluation after displaying symptoms…

Bergen County Jail Corrections Officer Tests Positive For Coronavirus, 7 Others Self-Quarantine
A corrections officer at the Bergen County Jail tested presumptive positive for the coronavirus, leading seven co-workers to self-quarantine as well, Sheriff Anthony Cureton said Thursday. Fifteen inmates at the jail were placed on quarantine, as well, the sheriff said. "The test was declared presumptive positive on Wednesday by the New Jersey State Department of Health and has been sent to the Center for Disease Control for confirmation," Cureton said. "Upon medical evaluation, the officer was asked to self-quarantine for 14 days," the sheriff said. "Seven additional corrections officers …

From Early Signs To Treatment: What Every Parent Needs To Know About Autism
In America today, Autism spectrum disorders are being diagnosed in ever increasing numbers. Nationally, roughly 1 in 68 children are identified with an autism spectrum disorder -- or ASD -- according to the Center for Disease Control. However, experts estimate that number is even higher in New Jersey, with 1 in 45 children being diagnosed with an ASD. "Due to the prevalence of these disorders, it's crucial for parents to know how to recognize the warning signs, seek help if they are worried about their child’s development and understand what interventions are available if their child …
