Woman Escapes Violent New Milford Sex Abuser Who Threatened To Kill Her, Prosecutor Says
A violent New Milford ex-con sexually and physically assaulted a woman -- holding her against her will and threatening to kill her -- before she managed to escape, authorities said. Matthew Harries, 29, remained held Saturday in the Bergen County Jail awaiting a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack following his arrest by borough police, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. : Leaking Household Cleaners Bring Responders To Dumont Home
Leaking household cleaners created enough of a problem to bring responders to a Dumont home, authorities said. Borough police, firefighters and the Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the Prospect Avenue home along with a Bergen County Hazardous Materials Unit late Sunday morning, Mayor Andrew LaBruno said. No one was hospitalized, LaBruno said. "We are extremely pleased no parties were injured or made ill due to the incident," the mayor said. Van Hits Wood-Ridge School
A van slammed into the back of a Wood-Ridge public school Tuesday afternoon. No serious injuries were reported after the van plowed through a fence, knocked down a sign and struck the rear of the Intermediate School in the parking lot off North Avenue between 1st and 2nd streets around 4:30 p.m. The school apparently was unoccupied at the time. Borough police and firefighters responded. The van was removed by flatbed tow truck.

Several Injured In Route 17 Crash
Several people were injured in a crash Tuesday night on Route 17 in Paramus. None of the injuries appeared serious after an SUV slammed into a utility pole on the northbound highway outside Petco, north of Midland Avenue, around 8:30 p.m. Borough police, firefighters and EMS responded. Driver, 65, Injured In State Line Rollover
A 65-year-old driver was hospitalized with back and neck injuries Tuesday after rolling his sedan near the Bergen/Rockland border. The driver got out under his own steam following the crash outside the Northvale Square Shopping Center on Livingston Street, barely 100 yards from the New York State line. : Knife-Wielding Gang Of Bergen Convenience Store Robbers Strikes Again
A group of knife-wielding thugs who’ve been robbing convenience stores in Bergen County apparently struck again, authorities said. The clerk at the Route 46 7-Eleven clerk in Elmwood Park told police the gang of four robbed the store of $400, 19 packs of Newports and rolling papers shortly after midnight Friday. The clerk said he was on the phone when one of them, brandishing a knife, walked around the counter and demanded he open the register. Authorities Try To ID Occupant Killed In Fiery Stolen Car Crash In Woodland Park
A stolen car slammed head-on into a tree and burst into flames in Woodland Park before dawn Tuesday, killing an as-yet unidentified occupant, authorities said. Members of West Paterson Fire Department doused the blaze and extricated the deceased victim after the 2012 Ford Mustang crashed on McBride Avenue near Hughes Place around 5:30 a.m., Acting Police Chief John Uzzalino said. Police: Bergenfield ID Thieves Claim More Than 50 Victims
A pair of ID thieves from Bergenfield stole thousands of dollars from the bank accounts of more than 50 victims, authorities said Tuesday. Borough police worked with members of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Secret Service and police in Brick and Absecon to crack the case. New Milford SUV Crash Follows Medical Episode
A driver apparently had a diabetic episode before her SUV crashed onto a corner property in New Milford. She got out on the passenger side of the Mazda following the crash at Henley Avenue and Bliss Drive. An ambulance took her to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck with what weren't considered life-threatening injuries. A tow truck removed the vehicle. Borough police and firefighters also responded.

Two drivers escaped serious injury in a crash Friday afternoon in New Milford. Bystanders got the female driver out of a Toyota Camry after it was knocked onto the driver's side by a Toyota 4Runner at the corner of Henley Avenue and River Road shortly before 2 p.m. Both she and the SUV driver didn't appear seriously injured, they said. The parents of a Bergenfield High School student who had her earlobe ripped open during what they said was a planned lunchroom attack are suing students, the school, the district and the borough.
