65 Cars Involved In Icy Crashes On Major NJ Roadway
At least 65 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes on a major ice-covered road in Central Jersey, authorities said. The crashes were blamed on black ice which often forms at dawn and dusk, according to the Monmouth County sheriff. The first chain-reaction crash occurred at 6:27 a.m. Wednesday on Route 36 westbound at the Route 18 ramp, according to Eatontown police. Black Ice Advisory Issued For Melting Snow Refreezing

A Look At Totals From The Area Temperatures falling below freezing Thursday night through the early morning Friday will result in the refreezing of melting of snow, the National Weather Service said. This will create black ice and icy conditions on any untreated roadways, especially secondary roadways. Motorists are urged to use extra caution and travel more slowly. With temperatures falling into the lower 20s and teens and standing water from melted snow freezing as a result, the National Weather Service has issued an advisory for black ice. Black ice conditions will occur on untreated walkways, sidewalks, parking lots and roadways Tuesday night and overnight into Wednesday morning, the weather service said.
