Free Food, Pet Supplies Offered To Bergen Residents At 'No Empty Bowls'
Free pet food and necessary supplies will be distributed to Bergen County pet owners in need beginning next month. The "No Empty Bowls" pet food bank will be open Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- except holidays -- beginning May 8 at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro (100 United Lane). There's no appointment needed to be served during the special collaboration between the Bergen County Animal Shelter and the Bergen County SPCA. Pig Succumbs To Injuries From Fair Lawn Fire
A pig had to be euthanized following a pen fire in Fair Lawn, authorities said. A neighbor doused the flames that broke out behind a Saddle River Road home around 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, police Sgt. Brian Metzler said. The Bergen County SPCA arranged for Van Saun Park Zoo personnel to take the pig to the Westwood Regional Veterinary Hospital, he said. The Fair Lawn Fire Prevention Bureau was investigating the cause of the fire.

UPDATE: Two raccoons who police said a New Milford man stabbed and poured bleach on had to be euthanized, animal control authorities said Thursday. "It was horrible," said Carol Tyler, the owner/operator of Tyco Animal Control, which serves 25 Bergen County municipalities. "It's pretty disturbing." Tyler didn't describe the raccoons' condition. UPDATE: A deaf and blind senior dog who authorities said was dumped from a car in Teterboro last summer by her Fort Lee owner died Tuesday. Someone in another car saw Bruna, 16, being dumped on Industrial Avenue on Sept. 1 and gave authorities the license plate number and a description of the vehicle, Bergen County SPCA officials said at the time. Decapitated Goat Found In Container Off Route 80 In Elmwood Park
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- A headless goat carcass, most likely part of a ritual sacrifice, was found in a container Monday night alongside railroad tracks in Elmwood Park. Authorities treated the hard-plastic bin found on Linden Avenue, just off eastbound Route 80, as a suspicious package. RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Bergen County authorities were investigating instances of dogs being burning during treatment at the Ridgefield Park Animal Hospital, Daily Voice has learned.
