UPDATE: Authorities have upgraded charges against a Teaneck restaurant manager who they said was drunk when he slammed his speeding car into a tree, killing two of his passengers. Teddy Mejia, 32, originally was charged with death by auto following the horrific Oct. 21 crash that killed Rudy Rosales Escobar, 40, of Hasbrouck Heights, and Alexander Cosme Curruchich, 29, of Englewood. A man was struck and killed by a commuter train Wednesday morning in Hackensack. The Pascack Valley Line train struck the 66-year-old pedestrian at Essex Street and East Railroad Avenue near the Essex Street train station at 9:55 a.m., city Detective Capt. Michael Antista said. A troubled man was taken to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for an evaluation on Tuesday after authorities responded to his Montvale home. Police had conducted a welfare check after a friend told police the man had texted a photo of a shotgun while saying he intended to harm himself. Fumes Overcome Four At Bergen Community College
Four workers at Bergen Community College were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after being overcome by fumes from an apparent cleaning product, responders said. Work apparently was being done when a mixture was poured that created the fumes in the kitchen area of the Pitkin Education Building off Paramus Road around 4 p.m. No students were affected, responders said. Northvale Driver Charged With Intentionally Crashing Into Couple In Norwood
UPDATE: A 21-year-old Northvale driver was charged with intentionally slamming his Jaguar into an SUV on a Norwood road, critically injuring one of the occupants, in what responders said was an apparent suicide attempt. Solomon Kim, who suffered back and leg fractures, “intentionally crashed into the victim’s vehicle, causing the injuries” to a man and woman, both 46, Tuesday afternoon on Livingston Street, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
