Corrections Officer From Bergen County Dies Months After Cancer Diagnosis, 51
The New Jersey Department of Corrections is mourning the loss of Senior Correctional Police Officer Ryan Robert Stemple, who died on Monday, Dec. 2.
Ryan, 51, of Park Ridge (Bergen County), was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer that metastasized to a small area of his lung earlier this year, according to a GoFundMe campaign launched for his daughter.
"He was a very proud father, great son, brother, cousin and friend to many," writes Jen Van Cleef in an update on the campaign.

A Bergen County high school is mourning the loss of one of its students.
Joseph "Joe" McNeice, 18, of Montvale, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, his obituary on the Becker Funeral Home website says.
"He courageously battled hardships every single day of his life, but he outmatched each obstacle with a positive outlook and smiling face," Joe's obituary says.

Alyson Garino, a Bergen County native and highly-respected First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, died on Dec. 2, 2023. She was 30 years old.

Emerson native Ariana Veronica Solimando passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1 surrounded by her family. She was 32 years old.
Ariana, who lived in Park Ridge, was a 2003 graduate of Emerson Jr. Sr. High School and an up and coming player on The Emerson Cavos softball team before being struck down by a catastrophic spinal cord injury in the summer of 2003.
