Rutgers Law School Grad Nominated To Succeed Sheila Oliver In Major Role Gov. Phil Murphy has nominated Rutgers law school graduate Jacquelyn Suárez to step in as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs after Sheila Y. Oliver’s unexpected death last month. Suárez, who currently serves as the Director of the DCA’s Division of Local Government Services, will serve as Acting Commissioner pending Senate confirmation and will be the first Hispanic Commissioner to hold the title. Trail died following a fearless battle with cancer on Monday, Sept. 19. She was 35. Born in Norwood Massachusetts, Kristin grew up in Abington and spent time in Boston, Virginia, and Key West before settling in Augusta in 2018, her obituary says. Kristin attended American University and George Washington University in Washington DC, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in both health promotions and nursing, according to her memorial. Belleville’s Lonnie Bunch Is First African-American To Head Smithsonian Lonnie Bunch, a prominent historian and Belleville native, has been named secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, the first African-American to lead the institution since its founding.
