BERGENFIELD, N. J. – Bergenfield High School senior Caoilin Ramsay has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist.

Ramsay is one of 1.5 million students who took the SAT/National Merit Scholarship Program and made it to the semi-final round of 16,000 -- less than 1% percent of U.S. high school seniors.

The semifinalists will go on to compete for 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million.

Ramsay is a member of the school’s Academic Decathlon team and is captain of the Chemistry Olympics team. She also performs with Bergenfield High School’s Honors Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra.

The National Merit Scholarship Program also recognized senior Matthew Calugay as a commended scholar for 2016, Principal James Fasano said.
