BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Local youth had the opportunity to experience the seats of power, as they took the mayor's and council seats before the Bergenfield mayor and council meeting on Tuesday, May 17.
The activity was part of the "Elks National Youth Week." In a proclamation recognizing the week, Mayor Norman Schmelz noted that "young people gain valuable citizenship skills by learning about state and local government."
The proclamation also resolves that the "the Bergenfield Governing Body encourages all its citizens to work together to prepare our young people to be good citizens."
