Dumont BOE Sues Over Redevelopment Of Borough Hall

DUMONT, N.J. -- The Dumont Public Schools Board of Education has filed suit against the borough this week, claiming a plan to redevelop Borough Hall would break a 1962 agreement which requires the property be returned to the school district at no cost, NorthJersey.com reports.

The Borough Council on Tuesday voted to build part of a 142-unit apartment complext on the vacant Borough Hall property and about 7-acres of land formerly part of D'Angelo Farms. The schools lawsuit threatens this plan, the article says.

Borough Hall, which sits at 50 Washington Ave., is a 1-acre site with questionable value. The site was vacated last year after the Bergen County Health Department declared that it was unsafe for occupancy, according to NorthJersey.com.

Before ownership of the building was transferred to the borough, 50 Washington Ave. was a school building used by the Board of Education for several decades, the story says.
