Teaneck Driver, 86, Hits Bergenfield Pedestrian, 61

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- A BMW driven by an 86-year-old Teaneck woman struck a 61-year-old Bergenfield woman at a busy borough intersection Tuesday afternoon, sending the victim to the hospital with a hip injury, authorities said.

Police issued a summons for failing to stop for a pedestrian to Myrna Gillespie after her red 2014 Beamer hit Maria Catano as she crossed South Washington Avenue heading east just after 2:30 p.m., Bergenfield Police Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.

Gillespie was making a left off New Bridge Road headed north when the crash occurred, he said.

The Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corp took the victim to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck with an injury that Rabboh said wasn't considered life threatening.
