The robber, who was described as black, about 5-foot-5 and in his late 20s, entered the Hudson City Savings Bank at the corner of Henley Avenue and River Road around 9:30 a.m., Detective Kevin Van Saders told Daily Voice.
He was wearing a a green cardigan sweater with a tan shirt underneath, khaki pants, and light blue tinted prescription glasses -- and holding shopping bags, the detective said.
Probably in his late 20s, the robber also had a painted-on beard, he said.
"He went to the teller, said 'this is a robbery' and demanded money," Van Saders said. "He didn't threaten anybody, but he was insistent."
A Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 unit searched for signs of the robber while the sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence. The FBI also responded, Van Saders said.
It was too soon to tell, he said, whether the holdup was related to any other area robberies, including one of a Hudson City branch in River Edge on Aug. 12.
The robber that day wore a pink shirt, white twill pants and dark sunglasses and carried a black bag. No weapon was shown or note passed in that holdup, either.
