PSE&G road project expected to seriously mess with Bergenfield traffic for weeks

It’s expected to last several weeks, with two crews working simultaneously from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.

On South Washington Ave, trenches will be dug on the east side of the roadway between Liberty Road and New Bridge Road.

On New Bridge Road, trenches will be dug on the south side of the roadway between South Washington Ave and the railroad tracks.

That’s going to mean lane closures and turn restrictions that will back up traffic for the duration of the project.

South Washington Avenue traffic is expected to continue flowing both direction, although the work “will dictate the need” for closures and other measures, Bergenfield Police Capt. Cathy Madalone said this morning.

“Officers will be on site daily to ensure that traffic flows as smooth as possible, as well as maintaining a safe work environment for the PSE&G workers,” Madalone said. “Motorists are encouraged to find alternate travel routes during the construction project to avoid delays.”
