BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- A neighbor who grabbed the phone immediately after seeing someone run from a nearby home early Sunday helped catch a burglar, Bergenfield police said.

Officers Rick Tauber and James Acito spotted 22-year-old Antonio Bowen on Rector Court moments after the Quincy Lane call came in around 6:30 a.m., Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.

Bowen had smashed a rear window, triggering a burglar alarm, Rabboh said. The homeowner, awakened by the commotion, saw him run out the door, the captain said.

Bowen at first gave police a provisional driver's license that identified him as Steven Mayisoglu but then admitted it was bogus, Rabboh said.

He was trying to avoid being arrested for an outstanding no-bail warrant, the captain explained.

A judge ordered Bowen, formerly of Lodi, held on a combined $97,500 bail.

He was charged with burglary, theft, hindering giving false information to a law enforcement officer and having bogus documents.

Rabboh thanked "all the neighbors for being our eyes and ears in the community. Their quick thinking and actions resulted in the arrest...We encourage all residents to report any suspicious activity, regardless of how minor it may seem at the time of the call."
