YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The driver of a pickup truck that slammed into a utility pole in Bergenfield last weekend was drunk, police said this morning.

Allan J. Martin Jr., 23, of Bergenfield failed field sobriety tests given by Patrolman Ahmed Alagha and was arrested just after 3:30 a.m. on Sunday after his Dodge hit the pole at South Prospect and Reid avenues, Detective Capt. Cathy Madalone said.

Martin was released to a family member and given a July 16 court date on charges of DWI and reckless driving, Madalone said.
