New Milford Student Threatens To Bring Weapons To School

NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- A New Milford High School student was suspended indefinitely after telling classmates not to come to school Wednesday because he'd "researched weapons online and had previously brought a knife to school," officials said.

"At this point there is no credible threat to the school," Schools Supt. Michael A. Polizzi said Tuesday.

Building administrators and the borough police School Resource Officer Bill Wilde "were notified from students of rumors involving a threat to the high school," the superintendent said in a message to parents.

"High school administration has since addressed the student, involving the Student Assistance Counselor, the New Milford Police Department and the student's parent," Polizzi said.

"The student in question is prohibited from school attendance until the student is professionally cleared to return to school," he added.

Police and district officials, meanwhile, are taking "necessary precautions," required in such circumstances.

He didn't go into detail, but these ordinarily involve having a police presence and addressing students as a group.

"We have to be thankful for the students who do not take matters like this lightly and go the extra distance by reporting it to school administration," Polizzi said. "We also thank the [New Milford Police Department] for its ongoing support and cooperation."
