New Milford Police: ID Thief Chased Down Outside Bank

NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- A New York man who'd withdrawn $3,000 of an unwitting victim's money from a local bank was at it again when New Milford police grabbed him outside a Chase branch, authorities said Tuesday.

The fraud-in-progress call brought Lt. Robert Jones, Detective Derek Mattesich and Officers Darrell Marshall, Francis Haggerty and Robert Sokol Jr., who spotted the 64-year-old Frank Prescod in a parking lot next store, Detective Sgt. Kevin Van Saders said.

Prescod tried to run but was quickly caught, Van Saders said.

He was carrying several out-of-state driver's licenses in various names, as well as fraudulent credit cards, the detective said.

Police also discovered that Prescod withdrew $3,000 from another person's Chase account using bogus ID, he said.

A judge ordered Prescod held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing. He's charged with forgery, theft, ID theft and possession of bogus credit cards.
