New Milford police charge ex-con out on bail with car burglary

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Quick response from New Milford police may have helped stem a rash of car burglaries in town since Christmas. A Dorchester Apartment tenant called at 3 a.m. Sunday after someone smashed his car window with a rock, triggering the alarm.

The tenant described two men seen running away with items taken from the vehicle, Detective Lt. Frank Ramaci said.

Searching the area, Patrolman Mattessich found and arrested 26-year-old ex-con Sheldon Perez Cox, Ramaci said.

Records show Cox was free on bail after being arrested two weeks ago on charges of conspiracy to commit burglary and theft, hindering apprehension, and employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.

Cox was able to post bail again, this time $10,000, and remains free pending a court hearing.

He is charged with burglary and theft, as well as criminal mischief in connection with the broken car window.

A search for the second thief continues.
