Manuel Escotto, 28, of New York City walked out of a Brookchester Shopping Center store moments after Officers Vincent Siekierski and Pierre Hanikeh pulled up Tuesday night.

They were checking out his identity in the parking lot of the River Road shopping center when Escotto suddenly bolted, Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders said.

They chased him down a few blocks away, then found "multiple forged credits cards and identification in other people's names," Van Saders said.

Escotto was charged with:

  • possession of falsely embossed credit cards;
  • possession of fraudulent credit cards;
  • obtaining fraudulent credit cards;
  • resisting arrest by flight, obstruction;
  • hindering apprehension;
  • possession of a fraudulent government document;
  • driving with a suspended license;
  • parking in a fire zone.

He was released pending a hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
