New Milford PD: Ex-Con In Tinted-Windowed Car Had Gun, Hollow-Point Bullets

NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- An ex-con in a car stopped by New Milford police for having tinted windows was carrying a 9mm handgun with a defaced serial number and hollow-point bullets, authorities said Tuesday.

Police Officer Vincent Siekierski smelled raw marijuana inside the vehicle after he stopped it on New Bridge Road just after 7:30 p.m. Monday, Detective Sgt. Kevin Van Saders told Daily Voice.

Backups found some pot, along with the silver Bryco Arms handgun and four 9mm hollow-point bullets belongong to passenger Michael Lantz, 40, of Newark, Van Saders said.

Lantz was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing on charges of illegal handgun and ammunition possession, buying a defaced firearm, and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia -- as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm.
