Officer Christopher Bores tried to stop Eloy Sanchez III, 31, of Hamilton, for crossing the double-yellow line to pass other motorists and weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed on River Road just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Detective Sgt. Kevin Van Saders told Daily Voice.

But Sanchez kept going, he said.

Bores, concerned for other civilians' safety, cut off the chase at New Bridge Road and South Prospect Avenue is Bergenfield, Van Saders said.

Sanchez then "lost control of his bike, causing him to brake abruptly," he said.

He then got off, left the motorcycle there and ran through a South Prospect Avenue backyard, the sergeant said.

Lt. William Duby and Officer Przemyslaw Boinski joined Bores, along with Bergenfield Police and a Bergen County sherriff's K-9 unit and created a perimeter.

Soon after, Bores spotted Sanchez on Briarcliffe Road and took him into custody.

Sanchez was charged with eluding and resisting arrest. Police also gave him 17 summonses, Van Saders said.

He remained held Friday in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.
