“He located the body on Friday under a pile of trash, clothing and blankets between the bed and window,” Papapietro said.

The Bergen County Medical Examiner determined that Klee died of natural causes and that no foul play was involved, the chief said.

It’s unclear how long Klee had been there.

“You’d have to see the place to understand how big of a mess it was,” Papapietro told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Several dead cats, along with debris, were pulled from the apartment, he said.

“Bergen County Police did a K-9 search of the wooded area near her residence,” Papapietro said after Klee went missing. There also was no bank activity, he said, adding that Klee left behind her phone, wallet and keys.

The green-eyed, blond-haired Klee lived alone and was “known to feed stray animals, such as cats and birds,” the chief said. “She has also been known to look into [D]umpsters for unknown reasons.”

She was reported last seen near Main Street and Prospect Ave in New Milford.

Although she has a car, it was found at her home. There was a chance, however, that she was driving another vehicle.
