The mixup began after an employee who ordinarily opens up at 7 a.m., and remains alone in the Midland Avenue pharmacy until 9, switched shifts with another manager — who overslept, Police Capt. Ronald Polonkay told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Workers arriving at 9 a.m. found the store locked and the lights on, so they called police.
“The immediate concern was that there might be a robbery or medical issue,” Polonkay said. “So an ESU unit went, just to be safe.”
They entered and found the store empty, then got hold of both managers, the captain said.
