The alarm at Asian Pacific Travel on South Washington Avenue and East Clinton Avenue came in just after 6:30 a.m., Detective Capt. Cathy Madalone said.

Fire Chief Jason Lanzilotti said the fire apparently begun in the wall of Asian Pacific Travel, sending smoke into the apartments above.

“Most residents left the area,” Madalone said. “However a few remained in their vehicles.”

Bergenfield firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and ventilated the three-story building, which Lanzilotti said appeared safe.

Barricades and barrier tape were set up in front of the travel agency because of glass debris.

Responding with Bergenfield firefighters were engines from Tenafly, Dumont and New Milford, as well as an Englewood ladder truck, Teaneck Box 54, and the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

No injuries were reported.
