A PSE&G crew in the middle of a project laying 15 miles of gas pipelines made the discovery and alerted police who were handling traffic control.

The River Road spot was barricaded off as a crime scene, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification joined a borough detective, Police Chief Frank Ramaci said.

A bone was brought to the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office, where it was determined to be from an animal, he said.

“It had to be in the ground for a long, long time,” Capt. John Kiene told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
