Chief: Owner of van in Dumont luring investigation to talk with police

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): The owner of a van being sought in a possible luring attempt this afternoon told authorities that the report was mistaken and that he was coming to speak with them, Dumont Police Chief Joseph Falbourn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“He said it wasn’t him,” Falbourn said.

The incident reportedly occurred at the corner of New Milford and Washington avenues just before 3:45.

The driver was described only as Hispanic and “small.”

Dumont police were given a license plate number of his 2006 Ford Econoline van, however.

The number was broadcast and published on CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Englewood police went to the man’s business, at their Dumont colleagues’ request, and he then phoned Dumont headquarters a little while ago, the chief said.
