YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: New Milford police evacuated the Berkley Street School and called in the county K9 unit after some students heard another talking about a bomb threat.

“They immediately told a teacher, which was the right thing to do,” New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The supposed even was supposed to happen at 2 p.m., the chief said.

So the 400 or so students were moved to the Hovnanian School nearby while the dogs search the building.

The students approached the teacher around 1 this afternoon, saying “there was a bomb in the school set to detonate at 2 p.m.,” Papapietro said.

“The student body and staff were evacuated to Hovnanian School and the building was searched by a Bergen County Police K-9 Unit and Bergen County Police Bomb Technician,” the chief said.

“There was no device found and the students were returned and dismissed,” he said, adding that his detectives are investigating.
