No foul play is suspected, New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said this morning.
Family members called police and said the man had left the house for a walk 24 hours earlier and not returned, Papapietro said.
A Bergen County Police K-9 Unit was brought in to search a wooded area near the man’s home, the chief said.
That’s when Lt. Kevin Kiene spotted the various items near the huge drainage pipe.
Officer Bryan Mone went in and found the body there, Papapietro said.
New Milford firefighters provided lighting as the body was removed by Detective Lt. Frank Ramaci and given to the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“The cause of death is not considered suspicious at this time,” Papapietro said.
An autopsy was scheduled for today.
